News Updates“Spurrier Discontinues Use of NPE-Based Surfactants
Over the past several months Spurrier Chemical has phased out the usage of wetting agents (surfactants) based on nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), as part of a project encouraged by the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative” (SDSI) program. NPE-based surfactants have a questionable biodegradability rate, and can give rise to potentially toxic byproducts during the process of biodegradation in the natural environment. Spurrier has virtually completed the replacement of over 135,000 pounds annual usage of NPEs with equal- or superior-performing surfactants known to be completely and rapidly biodegradable to harmless byproducts, mostly carbon dioxide and water.”
